David “Mickey” Michael Jay loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend
departed this life at the age of 79 on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
He was the only son of the late David William Jay and the late Margaret Gunter Jay, born February 14, 1947 in Aiken, South Carolina. Mickey was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was a talented self-employed contractor helping many families throughout the years. Mickey was a faithful member of East Laurinburg Baptist Church who loved to sing gospel music and serve the Lord. He enjoyed coaching youth ball and taking care of others when they needed help. Time outside with his granddaughter doing whatever she wanted meant the world to him. Mickey loved his family deeply and cherished time spent together and the precious memories they shared.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Glenda “Dale” Jay of the home; sons, Kevin L. Shaw (Stephanie) of Rockingham, Glenn Shaw of Wilmington; sisters, Donna J. Taylor and Phyllis J. Grant both of Rockingham; and adored granddaughter, Abagail Shaw; and many loving extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, JUNE 6, 2026 at East Laurinburg Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Richard Tyson.
Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday, JUNE 6, 2026 beginning 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church.
