David Edison Morrison, 69, of Laurinburg, NC passed away on February 1, 2024, at his residence, following a battle with glioblastoma. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
David was born August 18, 1954 in Richmond County, NC, son of the late Ernest E. Morrison and Nellie Beck Morrison. David was a graduate of N.C. State University, where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He worked for over 30 years as an agricultural extension agent for the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service, and valued the relationships he developed with local farmers. He thoroughly enjoyed assisting them with their farming operations, but hated the paperwork required by Raleigh.
His interests and talents were vast and varied from growing Christmas trees to completing HVAC school after retirement. He was always learning new things and could fix or build just about anything. His simple pleasures included gardening, riding his new lawn mower and spending time at the beach.
David is survived by his wife, Barbara; three daughters, Sarah Bass (Kris), Kate Morrison (Greg Mole) and Amy Morrison (Jarad Blackley); three grandsons, Parker Bass, Wyatt Mole, and Bishop Blackley; a brother, Ernest Morrison, Jr.; and his aunt, Johnsie Morrison.
The family would like to thank Scotland Regional Hospice and Carolina Hearts Home Care for their loving care and compassion.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Saint Luke United Methodist Church. The family will have a time of visitation prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the church.
Memorials may be made to Saint Luke United Methodist Church, Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, 1501 Turnpike Road, Laurinburg, NC 28352. This fund is for the direct assistance of those in the community in need as David often assisted people he encountered through unexpected acts of kindness.
