Daniel Richard Brown, 81, of Raeford, NC passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, March 31, 2025, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital - Hoke.
Richard was born in Hamlet, NC on October 26, 1943, to D.B. “Buck” Brown, Jr., a WWII combat veteran, and Mary Fleming Brown, his loving mother. He is preceded in death by two sisters, Brenda Fleming Foxworth and Ann Brown Chavis.
Richard graduated from Laurinburg High School in 1962. He married Dianne Snipes Brown on February 12, 1964. He worked for Sinclair Lumber Company until he was drafted into the US Army in 1966. He served as a decorated combat veteran in Vietnam as a SPC 4 in the 1st Artillery, notably supporting the 173rd Airborne Division. Richard was stationed in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam where he participated in many key engagements to include the battle for Hill 875, otherwise known as the Battle of Dak To. He honorably served his country until 1968.
After his military service, he completed a CDL certification program that led to 20 years as a driver for Bowman Transportation. He then transitioned to a career in Civil Service (DOD) where he worked until his retirement at Simmons Army Airfield, Fort Bragg, NC, as an aircraft maintenance professional.
Richard served as a Deacon at Pittman Grove Baptist Church in Raeford, NC. He loved spending time with family and friends and was an avid sports fan who enjoyed NASCAR racing and supporting Wake Forest athletics, the Washington Redskins, and the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed restoring antique cars, DIY projects including clock restoration, fishing, and ice cream.
Richard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dianne Snipes Brown of Raeford, NC, daughter Amy Bolton Brown of Southport, NC, son Richard Fleming Brown and wife Michelle of Charlotte, NC and three grandchildren, Jacob Lyde of Wichita Falls, TX, and Emily and Collin Brown of Charlotte, NC.
Memorial service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel.
A time of visitation will be held prior to the services beginning 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
