Claudia "Sis" Thomas Obituary

Claudia “Sis” Thrower Thomas, 85, passed away on April 17, 2025. Sis was the daughter of William Lauch Thrower Jr., and Elizabeth Stewart Thrower. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Bill Thrower and Marshall Thrower, and great granddaughter Aven Elizabeth Murphy. Sis was a native of Laurinburg and spent her childhood and early teenage years in Raleigh, NC. She had many fond memories of her friends at Needham Broughton High School and her time there. Sis graduated from Laurinburg High School in 1957 and attended Presbyterian Junior College where she met the love of her life. They spent thirty-four wonderful years together before his death in 1998.

Sis worked as a Teacher’s Assistant and Administrative Assistant with Scotland County Schools for many years and served as the Administrative Assistant for the United Way and the American Red Cross.  She was regularly active in the Laurinburg community, being a long-term member of the Highland Lassies Garden Club, a Girl Scout leader, Scotland Band Booster Club volunteer, Helping Hand volunteer and The Scottish Pilot Club, including serving as president. Sis was a long-term active member of her beloved Laurinburg Presbyterian Church. With the church, she was lifetime member of the Women of the Church, served as both Elder and Deacon, and served as the MAC coordinator for many years. Sis was often seen hanging out in the church office folding bulletins and the Messengers, and tidying the Sanctuary.  She was particularly proud of her Scottish heritage, and looked forward to the annual Kirkin’ of the Tartan.

Sis was a loving Wife, Mother and Grammie. She was predeceased by her husband M. Lindsey Thomas. She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth “Beth” Thomas Miller (John) of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, and Virginia “Ginny” Thomas Jones (Ed) of Southport, North Carolina and grandchildren Thomas Miller (Emma), Sarah Miller Angry (Reggie), Jay Jones Jr (Rebekah), Joseph Murphy (Jordan) and Ben Jones, and great grandchildren Trey, Connor, Ridge, Liesl, Malcolm, Magnolia, and Miles.  She is also survived by her brother Stewart Thrower (Vicki), sister in laws Joann Thrower, Susan Thrower and Peggy Thomas Johnson, and several special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all of the team members at Scotia Village for the exceptional care she received during the last few months of her life.  She loved her Scotia community!

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Laurinburg Presbyterian Church, Scotia Village Foundation or Hospice of Scotland County.
