Clarence Lee Norton, Jr.

Clarence Lee Norton Jr., 80 years old, was the Youngest Child of 8, born to Bessie Odom Norton and Clarence Lee Norton Sr. on September 04,1944 in Scotland County, North Carolina.  He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on August 13, 2025. 

With only a 4th Grade Education, Jr. became an entrepreneur at an early age.  He successfully supported his family as a painting contractor, and employed many in need of work over the years.  He also taught his children his trade during their summer vacations from school.

Jr. loved Motorcycles, Old Cars, a Good Black Coffee, and Hot Pork Skins with an ICE cold Natty! He was a good friend to many, and the best father a child could ever ask for. 

He was proceeded in death by his Parents, Clarence and Bessie Norton; 6 siblings; and his ex-wife, Doris Britt Norton, with whom he maintained a great life-long friendship.

He leaves behind to carry on his memory his only son, Clarence Lee Norton III of Laurinburg, NC; his daughters, Teresa Lear of Rockwell, NC, Tina (Desi) Strickland of Southern Pines, NC, and Betty Wilkerson of Laurinburg, NC; his grandchildren, Craig Lear, Jennifer Harper, Brandon Clark, Tyler and Christopher Locklear; 4 Great Grandchildren; and his sister, Shirley Stubbs, of Laurinburg, NC.

He also leaves behind his honorary children, Peggy Holmes, Letha McCormick, and James “Buddy” Holmes. 

In his final days, Jr. showed exemplary courage as he battled lung cancer, never complaining once. 

The family would like to acknowledge his youngest daughter, Betty Wilkerson, who took care of him during his illness. Our gratitude is endless. 

We would also like to acknowledge the many CNA’s, Nurses, Staff at Carolina Hearts, and Scotland County Hospice for your support and care of our father. 

Visitation will take place at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 1:00 pm with a Celebration of Life Service following at 2:00 p.m.  Burial will take place in Hillside Memorial Park.
