Charles "Wayne" Bowers Obituary

Charles “Wayne" Bowers, formerly of Woodstock, VA, passed away at the age of 77 on Saturday, June 18, 2022, following a period of declining health.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Strosnider Bowers, son, Dane Bowers (Atlanta), and special family member, Kim Didawick (Stuart), (Edinburg VA), brothers, Roger Bowers (Carol), Jerry Bowers (Brenda), Dennis Bowers (Pam), and sister, Nancy Burner, along with many nephews, nieces and friends who were special to him.

Wayne was the son of the late Cooper and Louise Bowers of Woodstock, VA. He made them proud by joining the Air Force after graduating from high school. He served our country first as an aircraft mechanic on B-52's in Michigan and eventually retiring from Air Force Reserves, Air Cargo, as Senior Master Sergeant at Pope Air Force Base. His service didn’t stop there as he mentored many young people serving our country.

After retiring as industrial engineer in the textile industry, he enjoyed his hobby of upholstery doing classic and street rods for friends.  Some of his work was featured in car magazines. There again, he mentored young people in upholstery as he said it was a lost art.

He was always busy either helping neighbors or the church with a smile on his face and possibly something witty to say. Building handicap ramps and perfecting the chicken barbecue process at Saint Luke United Methodist Church was a special and fun time for him.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Scotland Memorial Hospital, Laurinburg, NC, and Atrium Health Cabarrus, Concord, NC, for the wonderful care given our love one.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Luke United Methodist Church, Ramp Fund, 1501 Turnpike Rd, Laurinburg NC, 28352, or give to a person or family in need as he often did.

Services will be planned for a later date.
