Mr. Charles Franklin Odom, known by most as “Pinky Odom” at the age of 91 has completed the journey to his Heavenly home on the early morning of March 26, 2026. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, church and community servant, who will dearly be missed.
He was the son of the late Daniel Melvin Odom and Elizabeth Bullard Odom of Scotland County, North Carolina. Pinky proudly served our nation as a Veteran of the United States Navy. He enjoyed his career with The ABC Store Commission retiring after many years of service on December 31, 1998. He was a community servant who was honored to serve as the Fire Chief of the Gibson Southwest Fire Department retiring after 36 years. He was also the Vice Commander for the past 3 years of the American Legion Post #50. Pinky was a longtime faithful member of St. John United Methodist Church where he served as a Lay Leader, the Methodist Men and helping others in the St. John UMC Food Bank. Above all, Pinky was devoted to his family cherishing every moment with each one along with treasured friendships. There will now be an empty chair on Thursday afternoons at his favorite restaurant, Stanton’s Barbeque.
Along with his parents, preceding him in death is his beloved wife of 61 years, Evelyn Scott Odom; brothers, Edgar W. Odom and his wife, Jane; Melvin Gibson Odom; and sister, Maggie Elizabeth Odom.
Pinky leaves behind his children, Anne Odom Hammonds and husband, Jim of Seven Lakes, Charles Franklin “Frank” Odom Jr., and wife, Kittie of Asheboro; brother, D. Nelson Odom and wife, Judy of Fort Mill, SC, and sister, Sara O. Lassiter and husband, Jim of Raleigh; his adored grandchildren, Samuel “Sam” Hammonds wife, Brooke of Raleigh, Page Odom Davis husband, Nathan of Asheboro, Zachary “Zac” Hammonds of Painesville, OH, Shelby Odom Kiser husband, Bradley of Asheboro; great grandchildren, Evelyn Davis, Aiden Davis, Easton Davis, Harper Hammonds, Hayden Hammonds, Kent Kiser; his loving companion, Carolyn Paul of Laurinburg; along with a host of loving nieces, nephew, and extended family.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026 at the St. John United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Edward Bullard. Burial with Military Honors and Fireman Honors will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be prior to the services on Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.
