Mr. Charles David Strickland, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, departed this life at the age of 80 on January 24, 2024. Born on December 26, 1943 in Columbus County, North Carolina son of the late Barry Alonzo Strickland and the late Mattie Frances White Strickland.
Charles proudly served in the Army National Guard with the rank Buck Sergeant. He loved his work in the food industry beginning his career with Scottish Food Systems Inc. for over 20 years as the General Manager to the Director of Operations. Then continuing that passion as the owner operator of two successful businesses from August 1990 to October 2012, Jimmy's Seafood and Calabash West. Charles was an attendee of Gibson United Methodist Church where he enjoyed fellowshipping and worshipping.
He served as a member of the North Carolina and South Carolina Restaurant Association and was a devoted sponsor of the Special Olympics and the Disabled American Veterans for many years. In his downtime, Charles enjoyed painting, watching his favorite team the Atlanta Braves play baseball, playing pool, and shagging to beach music with his adored wife, Charcie. Charles will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for his love and devotion to his family and friends.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Phyllis Payne, Barry Alonzo Strickland, Jr., and Frances Strickland Magee.
Left to cherish his memory is his adored wife of 22 years, Charcie Berry Strickland of the home; daughters, Misty Strickland (Travis) of Rowland, Crystal Schneider (Jimmy) of Elgin, SC; brother, James Barry Strickland (Beth) of Laurinburg; sister, Patricia Gore of Laurel Hill; and grandchildren, Charles Dakota Oxendine, Hailey Oxendine, Donovan Stroud; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Memorial donations are requested to be made to Scotland Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will
be prior to services on Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
