Charles L. Miller, Jr., of Laurel Hill passed away at the age of 77 on January 5, 2025.
He was the son of the late Charles L. Miller, Sr., and the late Mabel Lewis Atwell born June 4, 1947 in Bennettsville, South Carolina. He was a Disabled Vietnam War Veteran who proudly served our nation in the 173 Airborne Division of the United States Army. For his service and bravery, he was awarded many medals including The Purple Heart. Charles was not only a hero of the Vietnam War, he was a hero as a wonderful husband to his precious Jenny, and a hero as a great dad to their children. Charles had a heart of gold and would give all that he had to help anyone in need. He was a blessing to his families lives and the lives of others. He enjoyed weekly Sabbath gatherings with special friends in Florida, Walt, Kathy and Ronnie, and caring for his K9 buddies, Polly, Wally and Snapper. Charles will dearly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Along with his parents, preceding him in death are grandfather, John Pope Lewis; brother, Richard Atwell; uncle, Marvin Lewis and aunt, Pollard Lewis Jorgenson.
Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 29 years, Virginia “Jenny” Elizabeth Miller of their home; sons, Bobby McCall Dial (Amy), Steven Matthew McCall, Jamie Lee Hunt (Martha); daughter, Saprina Kaye Oxendine (Timothy); brothers, John Atwell (Donna); sisters, Sharon Atwell-Harrison (Kreg); twenty grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two nieces, a nephew; along with a host of loving family and many friends.
Funeral services with military honors will be held 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel. Visitation will be prior to the service on Wednesday beginning at 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private interment will be held at a later date.
