Charles Eugene Byrd, Jr. was born in Marlboro County, South Carolina, son of the late Charles Eugene Byrd and Evelyn Norris Byrd and was the devoted husband of 62 years to the late Eloise Reece Byrd. He worked many years as a machine operator and enjoyed going to the coast to fish. Charles most loved to spend time with his children, especially his grandchildren. He will forever be missed as a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He passed away at age 87 on September 24, 2021.
Along with his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Byrd O'Dell; great grandchild, Jeremy Ward; siblings, Larry Byrd, Dean Byrd, Ralph Byrd and Jeanette Shutt.
Charles leaves behind his daughters, Brenda Joyce Byrd of Laurinburg, Deborah Dinius of Whispering Pines, Vicky Lynn Byrd of Laurinburg; brothers, Mike Byrd of Laurel Hill, Jim Byrd, Woody Byrd, both of Laurinburg, Frankie Byrd of Jacksonville, FL, sisters, Brenda Karneckis of Hamlet, Ann Brooks of Rockingham, Judy Barcome of Hamlet, Lorraine Latham of Topeka, KS; grandchildren, Chuck Dinius, Kim Dinius, Tim O'Dell, Josh Owens, fourteen great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2021 in Hillside Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Woody Byrd. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2021 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel.
