Chalmers Chavis, Jr., lovingly known as Ringo, was the only son of Betty McPherson Chavis Gibson and the late Chalmers Chavis, Sr., born July 11, 1964 in Laurinburg, North Carolina. As a young man, he enjoyed time fishing with is Dad. Ringo was a talented jack of all trades, who loved working on cars. He was also an avid NASCAR racing fan. He enjoyed his quiet time at home watching western movies and especially his favorite show, Gun Smoke. Ringo loved his family and cherished time shared with each of them. He passed away to his Heavenly home at the age of 59 on November 8, 2023. A beloved son, brother and friend who will be dearly missed.
Along with his father, he is preceded in death by grandparents, Clarence and Margaret McPherson; and sister, Denise Wilson.
Ringo is survived by his mother, Betty Gibson of Laurinburg; daughter, Courtney C. Odom (Justin) of McColl, SC; sister, Deneane Smith (Alan) of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Braxton Odom, Easton Odom and granddaughter expected soon; his aunts, Dorothy Barnes and Shirley Locklear; loving nieces, nephews and his adored companion, Sheila Miller.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in Hillside Memorial Park. Visitation will be prior to services on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
