Catherine Thompson Strickland, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend departed this life for her Heavenly home at the age of 82 on December 24, 2024.
Catherine was born September 8, 1942 in Robeson County, NC, beloved daughter of the late William and Nevada Rogers Thompson. She was the loving wife of 62 years to the late Roy Thomas Strickland, raising their family and sharing many happy years until his passing in 2023. Along with being a homemaker, Catherine worked in textiles for over 50 years with Stedman and Woodard’s Upholstery until retiring. She enjoyed spending time landscaping, working in her yard and flower gardens, crossword puzzles and watching her favorite television program, Gunsmoke. Her greatest joy came from sharing time with her adored family.
Along with her parents and husband, preceding her in death are son, Nelson R. Strickland and infant daughter, Gloria A. Strickland; brothers, Paul Thompson, Kenny Thompson, Johnny Thompson, Joseph Thompson and Cain Thompson, Willie French Thompson; sisters, Marie Thompson, Lois Thompson, Ellen Thompson and Sylvia Lee Thompson Hatcher.
Catherine is survived by her daughters, Connie S. Barefoot (Junior) of the home in Maxton, and Beverly A. Sweat of Maxton; grandchildren, Kelly Johnson, Courtney Strickland, Adam Sweat each of Maxton, Scottie W. Parker of Pembroke; sister, Peggy Spurlin of Georgia; brother-in-law, Donald Strickland of Maxton; special niece, Billie Jo Phillips, special nephews, Robin Strickland, Johnny R. Strickland and Donald A. Thompson; and special caregivers, Ashley Lowery and Maggie Oxendine; along with a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. Kerry Revels and Rev. Jimmy Strickland. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to services on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
