Brett Michael Russ

Brett Michael Russ, age 31 of Hamlet, NC passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023.  He was born on May 29, 1991 in Moore County, NC to Dawn Snead Chavis and Jody Edward Russ.

Brett had a passion for cars that would lead him to a career as an automotive mechanic. He enjoyed attending Laurel Hill Baptist Church, playing the guitar, traveling, fishing, and was an avid computer gamer. Brett had a special love for animals. He was a loving son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend who will truly be missed.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruby Catherine Snead, Robert Earl Russ, Shelby Sansbury Russ; and step granddaddy, AB Chavis.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Dawn and Martin Chavis of Laurel Hill, Jody and Rena Russ of Laurinburg; special friend, Kara Hatchell of the home; half brother Brandon Sweeley of Roanoke Rapids, NC; step brother, Aaron Huggins of Laurinburg; step sisters, Beth Bullock (Ryan) of Wagram, Adrian Huggins of Laurinburg; step grandmother, Josephine C. Chavis; aunt, Linda Lynch (Kenneth) of Rockingham; uncles, Robert Russ Jr., (Christine) of Laurinburg, Scott Russ of Wagram; step uncle, Allen Chavis; step aunt, Deborah Cashwell; along with a host of loving cousins, extended family, and friends.

The family will have a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at East Laurinburg Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Richard Tyson with a time of visitation immediately following the service at the church.
