Bobby Joe Whitehead loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend departed this life at the age of 94 on June 19, 2026.
He was born in Chester, South Carolina on August 30, 1931, son of the late Thomas Lafayette Whitehead and the late Elizabeth Pendergrass Whitehead. Bobby was a proud Clemson University Tigers alum graduating with his bachelor’s degree. He worked in the textile industry for many dedicated years with Spring Mills and then with J.P. Stevens as a product development manager until retiring. Bobby loved to meet up with his friends at Bojangles for coffee club and going on one of their many walks together. He would often go on a trip with his friends and especially enjoyed traveling to the beach. Bobby loved to be outdoors, and you could often times find him working in his garden. Above all, time with his family and friends meant the world to him.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his adored wife of 69 years, Patsy Whitehead; brothers, Tommy Whitehead, Gerald Whitehead; and sisters, Evelyn Rocky, Dot Broadnax, Hazel Epps, Mary Whitehead, and Helen Rollins.
Bobby leaves behind his son, David Paul Whitehead; daughter, Donna W. Peterson and husband, Lee; grandchildren, Kelly Langton (Neil), Josh Peterson (Kirsten), Kyle Peterson (Anna); and great-grandchildren, Conor Langton, Samantha Langton, Wendy Susan Peterson and Emma Elizabeth Peterson; along with a host of loving extended family and friends.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, JUNE 30, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Laurinburg.
A time of visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday beginning 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers the family ask for donations in Bobby’s memory be made to First Baptist Church of Laurinburg or Church Community Services, 108 Gill Street, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
