Billy “Mr. Bill” Pate Smith, age 73 of Laurinburg passed to his Heavenly home on Thursday, December 31, 2020.
Billy was the only son of the late James Pate Smith and Mary Frances Blue Smith born March 31, 1947 in Marlboro County, South Carolina. He worked in the food wholesale industry retiring after many years of service as a Retail Counselor with the Nash Finch Company. He enjoyed his time serving as a member of the Laurel Hill Baptist Church. Bill loved traveling to the mountains, enjoyed fishing, watching drag racing and old fast cars. He loved softball, especially watching Katie play in her games. Bill was a devoted, loving husband, awesome father and grandfather, special brother, uncle and friend who will truly be missed.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Smith Britt.
Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Grace Herndon Smith of their home; sons, Jimmy Smith and wife, Shelby of Hamlet, Rodney Smith and wife, Renee of Laurinburg; sister, Kathy S. Capps and husband, Wayne of Statesville; his adoring grandchildren, Brandon “Turtle” Smith, Katie “The Gal” Smith, Eli “Stick” Smith, Brian Mishue, Mekayla "Boog" Wallace (Brandon), Elaine “Sissy” Williams; great grandchildren, Aidyn Mishue, Brandon Wallace, Ava Wallace, Nova Wallace; his "Uncle Jiggs" MB Smith of Mt. Airy; nephew, Brian Capp (Krystal) of Statesville; and niece, Tina Britt of Statesville. He also leaves behind his favorite “yard young’uns” Jamie and Betty Jo Smith, Timmy and Shelia Grooms, Reynolds and Jami Sutherland, Mandy and Mike Williams, along with many special friends.
A time of viewing will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Richard Boles Funeral Service. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 3rd at the Laurel Hill Baptist Church. A private interment will be at a later date.
