After fighting a long-term battle against dementia and other illnesses, Betty Seagraves, age 93 of Gibson, NC, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 1:41 pm EDT.
Betty, affectionately known by many as “Ms. Betty”, was born November 19, 1930, in Marlboro County, South Carolina to Walker (father) and Jesse (mother) Elvis as their youngest of 13 children. Betty married Johnny Seagraves on October 28, 1962, in Bennettsville, SC. She gave birth to two sons, John D. Seagraves (Danny) on August 7, 1963, and David Walker Seagraves on May 5, 1965.
Betty was preceded in death by her paternal parents, husband Johnny, and 11 siblings.
Among the many surviving Betty are Danny Seagraves (son) of Charlotte, NC; Bianca Seagraves (granddaughter) of Raleigh, NC; David Seagraves (son) of Rockingham, NC; Gordon Elvis (brother) of Rockingham, NC; Jerry Leviner (nephew) and Brenda McGirt (niece) of Laurel Hill, NC.
The family has elected a graveside funeral. Betty will be interned next to her husband Johnny in Laurinburg Memorial Park July 6th at 2pm. Attendees should plan to arrive between 1:30 pm and 2pm. The family has requested that attendees remain cognizant of the extreme heat and humidity. Traditional funeral attire is simply too hot for these conditions. Please dress comfortably and respect the weather conditions.
In lieu of flowers and memorials, the family request donations be made to a charity of the giver’s choice. The services will be followed by an intimate gathering for immediate family members.
