Betty (Blue) Evans

Betty Blue Evans, 91, lifelong resident of Laurinburg, passed away on April 30, 2023 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, N.C. 

Betty was born in Laurinburg on March 3, 1932.  She was the daughter of the late Angus Elmo Blue and the late Louise Blue Nance.

Betty was a 1950 graduate of Laurinburg High School.  She attended Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh and earned a secretarial degree.  She returned to Laurinburg and worked as a bookkeeper for McNair Investment Company.  In 1956 she married Warren G. Evans also of Laurinburg.  Following the birth of her only child, Wendy, she worked part-time as a bookkeeper for Everington's Drug Store.  She retired from working to be a full-time homemaker and mother.

Betty was a person who liked to keep busy.  One of her favorite pastimes was walking around her College Park neighborhood.  In her heyday she would log eight miles a day.  She knew all the neighbors and all the neighborhood news.

Betty was an avid reader.  She was a regular patron of Scotland County Memorial Library where she had held a library card since her childhood.  She also enjoyed cooking and keeping a nice yard.  Over the years she was active in craft projects such as cross-stitch and basket-making.  Several of her creations were given as gifts.

Betty mostly enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.  She was up for going anywhere on a moment's notice. 

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Warren G. Evans after 56 years of marriage; also her sister Joanne Blue Ringquist.

She is survived by her only child Wendy Wadhams (Richard) and several nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by many non-relatives who have loved her as their "Aunt Betty."

The family would like to express their immense gratitude to the staff at The Greens at Pinehurst for the loving and compassionate care they extended to "Miss Betty" for the past three years.  We consider them also as family.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 13 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel in Laurinburg.  Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m.  A private interment will be held at a later date.
