Bessie Lowery Brooks, age 74 of Kannapolis, NC, formerly of Laurel Hill, departed this life on Monday, February 10, 2025.
She was the loving daughter of the late Henry Belton Lowery and the late Cattie Mae Lowery, born on May 23, 1950 in Scotland County, NC. Along with being a homemaker, Bessie worked for many years with Walmart until her health declined. She enjoyed tending her flower garden, collecting pottery and blown glass, reading her Bible, and baking delicious cakes. Bessie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by daughter, Shannon Brooks Furr; brothers, James Belton “Hobby” Lowery, Everette Lowery, Ronnie Lowery, Fred Lowery, Henry Lowery; and sisters, Rev. Elizabeth (Cattie Mae) Lowery Cribb, Mattie Mae Lowery Croom, Hazel Lowery, Carrie Bell Lowery, Geraldine Lowery, Louise Lowery Berry.
Left to rejoice in her memory is son, Johnny Ray Vanhoy, Jr., and wife, Melinda of Stanfield; daughter, Avery Burris and husband, Alan of Richfield; brothers, Clyde Wilbert Lowery, Sr., of Laurinburg and David Lowery of Stanfield; seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; and K-9 companion, Cassie; along with many loving extended family and friends.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in Blue Cemetery in Wagram, NC.
Visitation will be held prior to services from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
