Bertha Mae Laviner Obituary

Bertha Mae Luther Laviner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 28, 2023.   She departed this life at the age of 86 surrounded by loving family.

Bertha was born October 12, 1936 in Norwood, North Carolina, the loving daughter of the late Enos Monroe Luther and Violet Shue Luther.  She married the love of her life, James Franklin Laviner November 21, 1953 and together raised their family in a Christian home where the love of Jesus was always shared.  Bertha and James were faithful longtime members of the Wagram Church of God where she truly loved serving anywhere needed.  She enjoyed working in her retail business along with gardening, sewing, fishing and camping with her family.  She was a woman of true faith and dedicated her life to serving God and her family. 

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Larry Franklin Laviner; brother, Carl Luther; sisters, Lorene Luther Wencil and Martha Luther Vick.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 69 years, James Laviner of their home in Wagram; son, James “Michael” Laviner and wife, Karen Jackson Laviner of Wagram; daughter, Melaine J. Laviner and fiancé, Bill Sutherland of Wagram; a sister, Mary Cornelius Luther Harden of Wabash, IN; her adoring grandchildren, Michael “David” Laviner and wife, Kimberly McLean Laviner, and James Robert Laviner and special friend, Beverly Medlin; great grandchildren, Kaylee Laviner Locklear and husband, Zachary Locklear, Lauren Olivia Laviner, James Sawyer Laviner and great-great grandchildren, Averly Harper Locklear and Jameson David Locklear.   Bertha is also survived her loving nieces, nephews, extended family and her church family.

Funeral services to celebrate her life will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the Wagram Church of God officiated by Rev. Ricky Brewer and Rev. Gary McMillian.  Burial will follow the service in Spring Hill Cemetery.     Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the Wagram Church of God.

In recognition of the loving care given by the staff of Hospice, the family requests memorial donations to be given to Hospice of Scotland County, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC  28353.
