Mrs. Bertha “Carol” Strickland Locklear, affectionally known as “Udda Mama”, of Maxton, NC was a Christmas baby, born December 25, 1944 and departed this life on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the age of 80 for her eternal home in Heaven.
Along with being a homemaker, she enjoyed her work in the housekeeping department at St. Andrews University until retiring. Mrs. Locklear faithfully attended New Harvest Ministry Church. She enjoyed studying her Bible, working in her garden, and doing crossword puzzles. Mrs. Locklear was a wonderful cook who loved time spent with her family and friends. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Edward Strickland and Mrs. Florence Strickland; and sisters, Ms. Glennie Strickland and Mrs. Sylvia Locklear.
Mrs. Locklear leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Mr. Kenneth “Charlie” Locklear of their home in Maxton; three daughters, Lorie Strickland Evans (Stanley Evans) of Maxton, Jamie Strickland Oxendine (Chris Oxendine) of Lumberton, Michelle Hunt (Clayton Hunt) of Maxton; two grandchildren, Amanda Lynn Locklear of Lumberton, Channon Jacobs of Pembroke; brothers, Howard Strickland (Jodie) of Red Springs, Edward Strickland, Jr.,(Jacqueline) of Rowland, Jimmy Strickland of Maxton, Ted Strickland of Maxton, Fred Strickland (Dorothy) also of Maxton; sisters, Aggie Nora Edge of Maxton, Pearlie “Nell” Hunt of Maxton, Betty Hiles (Douglas) of Lumberton, May Revels (Jerry) of Lumberton; very special lifelong friend, Mrs. Vivian Chavis Miller; along with a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at New Harvest Ministry with burial following at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
