Alma "Ducky" Delores Pierson

Alma Delores “Ducky” Pierson, age 84 of Mt. Gilead departed this life on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

She was born November 29, 1941 in Scotland County, loving daughter of the late Cecil “CB” Pierson and the late Ruth Butler Pierson. Alma was a beloved school teacher at Laurel Hill Elementary School for many devoted years until retiring. She served as a devoted member of Fairview Baptist Church. Alma enjoyed coloring, crafting, crocheting, reading a good book, and going shopping. She was also an avid sports fan especially Duke Basketball and Atlanta Braves Baseball. Her greatest joy came from time spent with family, especially all her grandchildren. Alma was an adored mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Jerry Sessoms; brother, Cecil Pierson, Jr.; and sister, Ellen Sharpe.

Left to cherish her memory is son, Arthur “Chip” Harold Johnson (Lara) of Fayetteville; daughter, Laura Haywood (Gil) of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Betty Bracey (Arthur) of Laurinburg, Judy Voss also of Laurinburg, Kimberly Pierson (Barry) of Maryland; grandchildren, Chris Johnson (Nicole), Michael Johnson, Thomas Reed, Rachel Johnson, Charles Haywood; and great-grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Evyin Johnson, Jackson Warden; along with many loving extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be prior to the service on Monday beginning 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m.  at the funeral home.
