Allen Dean Polston, age 71, passed away on December 10, 2025, in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Allen was a loving and caring son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend. Born on March 20, 1954, in Bennettsville, South Carolina, he was the son of the late James Allen Polston and Ethel Bowen Polston. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Carey Bowen and Maggie Bullard Bowen, and by his grandmother, Ruby P. Ward of Norfolk, Virginia.
Allen spent much of his childhood on his grandparents’ farm in Scotland County, North Carolina. He was deeply proud of his English, Welsh, Irish, and Scottish heritage. He grew up in a loving Christian home in the Berea community of South Carolina and attended Berea United Methodist Church as a youth. He attended Fletcher Memorial High School in McColl, where he enjoyed science, reading, history, and playing drums in the school band. He later completed his education at Century Community College in Inglewood, California.
He found joy in reading, classic TV westerns, listening to the radio, and keeping up with world news.
Allen was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1972 to 1979. During his military service, he traveled widely, spending time in Germany, France, Korea, and several other countries.
Throughout his life, Allen worked in grocery stores and served as a security guard. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
To cherish his memory, Allen leaves behind his brothers, Audie Polston of Maxton, NC, and Gerald Polston and wife Carla of Laurinburg, NC; his sister, Bonnie Knight and husband James of Laurinburg, NC; nieces Jenna Maley and husband Jeff of Laurinburg, NC, and Heather Davis of Raleigh, NC; great-nephews Andrew Davis, Jeffrey Allen Maley, and John Luke Maley; great-niece Hayden Davis; uncle George Polston and aunt Bernice of Bennettsville, SC; aunt Cecile Kennedy; uncle Henry "Eugene" Bowen and aunt Irene Bowen of Laurinburg,, NC; aunt Bernice Bowen of McColl, SC; along with a host of cousins and extended family members. He loved and cherished them all.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Priest Cemetery.
Visitation will be held prior to the service on Sunday beginning 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
