Aletha Jacobs Chavis

Aletha Jacobs Chavis of Laurinburg departed this life for her Heavenly home at the age of 92 on June 17, 2026.

She was born in Robeson County, NC on April 18, 1934, daughter of the late Marvin and Charity Jacobs Oxendine. Along with being a devoted homemaker, Aletha’s love for making others look beautiful led to a fulfilling career as a beautician. She loved her family deeply and cherished the memories they shared. Aletha was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, George Leonard Chavis; son, Ronnie Chavis; daughter, Brenda Joyce Chavis Polston; brother, Purcell Oxendine; and sisters, Bonnie Hunt, Sheryl Cesenaro, and Annie Ruth Jacobs.

Left to rejoice in her memory is son, Leonard Junior Chavis, and wife, Monica of Virginia; daughter, May Belle Chavis of Laurinburg; sisters, Elizabeth Strong of Rowland, Ruby Delfyette also of Rowland, Sylvia Pittman of Laurinburg; seven grandchildren; a host of loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel followed by burial in the Laurinburg Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
