Ms. Vastie Wilkins Locklear, age 87 of Laurinburg passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, September 2, 2018.
Vastie was born in Scotland County on June 29, 1931 to the late James A. Wilkins and Irene Chavis Wilkins. She worked for many years at Ingram Toastmaster Inc. before retiring. Vastie was known as “G” to her family and friends, she love going to the events that her grandchildren and great grandchildren were participating in be it baseball or whatever was going on. “G” was a avid Atlanta Braves fan, a reader and enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley. She was a faithful member of Hillside FWB church in Laurinburg. She will truly be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sibling, Ver Wilkins, Edward Wilkins, Magilene Wilkins, Roy Wilkins, Carol Anne Butler and Betty Jean Wilkins.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Lou Byrd and husband Rev. Woody Byrd of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Eric Byrd (Jamie) and Dr. Jeffrey Byrd (Mitzi) both of Laurinburg; great grandchildren, Bryce Byrd, Parker Byrd, Myles Byrd, Gracen Byrd, Brinley Byrd, Conner Seales and Emma Seales; brothers, Sandy Wilkins of Colorado, James Wilkins of Sanford, Mack Wilkins of Gibson and Bobby Wilkins of Laurel Hill.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday September 5, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 prior to the service. Burial will be at Hillside Memorial Park.
