Sidney "Sid" Mark Riggins

Sidney "Sid"  Mark  Riggins, age 56 of Laurinburg passed away Monday, July 29, 2019

Sidney, a son of Sarah Beane Riggins and William Bankston Riggins was born May 12, 1963 in Scotland County.  Sidney attended middle and high school at Robeson Country Day School in Red Springs.  He studied the culinary arts and hospitality management at Georgetown Technical College in South Carolina and afterward, worked for many years in his family’s businesses.   He was the chef and a manager at the Scotland Inn restaurant until Sidney, together with his oldest brother, opened Champs Fine Foods and Spirits in 1986.  Later, Sidney became the first general manager of the Hampton Inn of Laurinburg until a move to his beloved Surfside Beach in 2003.  While there, he and a partner built homes in that area until he returned to Laurinburg in 2013.  Sidney continued to work in the family businesses until his death.

Throughout his life, Sidney enjoyed any type of racing event and he and his extended family and friends shared fond memories of attending and watching racing together.  Sidney and family also shared many memories on the water at Lake Tillery and at the beach.   He truly enjoyed both cooking and eating out as he appreciated the culinary arts.   He loved travel and great music and sharing any time he could with friends and family.   Sidney had a special place in his heart for animals and loved and cared for several special pets during his lifetime. 

He is survived by his mother and father, Sarah Beane Riggins and William Bankston Riggins; his brothers Ronald Lee Riggins (wife Denise) of Laurinburg and William Bankston Riggins, Jr of Snellville, GA ;  nephew, Ryan Cathcart Riggins ( wife, Jacqueline) and niece, Katherine Alice Riggins, alongside  a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in Hillside Memorial Park.   The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are requested to be given in Sidney’s memory to the St. John United Methodist Church Food Bank, P.O. Box 181, Gibson, NC  28343.
