Lena Mae Miller Van Meter, age 93 of Laurinburg passed away to her Heavenly home Tuesday, June 4, 2019.
Lena was born September 19, 1925 in Warren County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late James Luther Miller and Bertha Miller. She was the wife of 42 years to the late Henry “Billy” Edward Van Meter. Before her illness, she served as a member of Stewartsville Baptist Church and was a talented seamstress of whom many came to trust and love her work. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and floral arranging. Above all, she enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. She will forever be remembered as a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend who will truly be missed.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her beloved foster parents, Clint and Lola Lanier; brothers, David Miller, Edmund Miller, Paul Miller; sisters, Irene Russell, Mary Frances Waters, Jo Anne Kerby, and special foster sister, Ruby Lanier Oliphant.
She leaves behind her son, Carroll L. Van Meter (Carol) of Washington Courthouse, OH and daughter, Regina Mae Van Meter Sutherland (Ray) of Laurinburg; sister, Flourine Lindsey of Brownsville, KY; grandchildren, Christopher R. Van Meter (Mary Ann), Maria E. Van Meter Spencer (Matthew), Andrew A. Sutherland (Erin), Timothy E. Sutherland (Morgan); great grandchildren, Jacob Van Meter, Cynthia Spencer, Katherine Spencer, Diana Sutherland, Alex Sutherland, Luke Sutherland and Abigail Sutherland, along with a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
A family memorial service and interment will be in Kentucky at a later date.
Memorial donations are requested to be given in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association or to Hospice of one's choice.
