Kelly Shealy McDonald, 87, of Laurinburg, North Carolina, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 19, 2018.
Kelly grew up in Columbia, South Carolina, and graduatedfrom Columbia College in Home Economics. She married George Stanley McDonald Sr. in 1955 and became a mother and true Clemson fan.
She was the classic southern woman—great cook, did beautiful cross-stitch and knitting, and was a wonderful seamstress. Kelly was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. She had a true zest for life that endeared her to all.
She was active in the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church and was most proud of her service as Chair of the Bereavement Committee, and when she received Presbyterian Women’s Honorary Life Membership. She was an active volunteer with the Helping Hand and American Red Cross.
Her husband preceded her in death. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Martha McDonald Dartt and husband Harley from Greenville, NC, and George Stanley McDonald Jr. and his wife Tanya and her beloved grandson Asher Reid from Maxton, NC.A special thanks to Tanya’s family in Robeson County for making Kelly a part of their family for many years.
A private graveside service will be Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Hillside Memorial Park.
The service will be held at the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church at 2pm on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. The family will receive guests in the fellowship hall after the service.
The family is grateful for the visits and prayers during Kelly’s brief illness. Special thanks to Scotland Regional Hospice for ensuring Mother’s comfort during her final months of life.
