Katie Witmore Obituary

Mrs. Katie Ruth Bullard Witmore, who was lovingly called Granny by many, passed away at the age of 93 surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 2, 2019.

Katie was a daughter of the late Postelle and Ruth Smith Bullard born in Scotland County on February 1, 1926.  She was the loving wife to the late Charles L. Witmore, Sr. Katie was a devoted homemaker and a talented seamstress retiring after many years of service with Morgan Mills. She also enjoyed her time working with Mildred’s Florist. She served as a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Laurinburg where she was involved with the Fidlas Sunday School Class, Women’s Missionary Union, United for Others, Social and Decorating Committees.   Gardening and yard work were just a few of her many hobbies. Katie will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, granny, aunt and friend to many. 

Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by sons, James Harold Witmore, Charles L. “CL” Witmore, Jr., and his wife Sylvia Witmore; a grandson, Devin Tate Gardner; brothers, Charles Bullard, Malcolm Bullard; sisters, Isabelle Brigman, Annie Shaw, and Rosa Lee Stubbs.

Katie is survived by her daughter, Sally Witmore Gardner and husband David of Laurinburg; her grandchildren, Charles “Chuck” L Witmore III and wife, Sirena of Laurinburg, Dr. Christopher L. Witmore and wife Liz, of Lubbock, TX, Kevin Lee Witmore and wife, Marie of Pembroke; great grandchildren, Donavon Stroud, Charles “Chaz” L Witmore IV, Sherry Lee Witmore, Elias Austin Witmore, Liam Jamison Witmore, Claire Louise Witmore, Lance Keaton Witmore, Emma Kate Witmore, Isabella Marie Witmore, Kellen Broder Witmore, Asher Lee Witmore, Devin Tate Gardner, Jr.; a special niece, Brenda Hardis (Jimmy) and special daughter, Sherri Veshinski, along with a host of loving family and many friends.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Laurinburg.   A time of visitation will follow the service at the church.  Private interment services will be at a later time.

The family requests for memorial donations to be given to Scotland Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353 or the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 883, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
