Jon Chandler Obituary

Jon A. Chandler known to family and friends as “Jack, Jeff, JJJ” passed away on October 4th after a brief illness although he had battled dementia for many years.
He was a kind, wise and thoughtful husband, father, son and friend who will be missed by all.  In his younger days, he was an avid bow hunter and fisherman.  He played golf but never considered himself a “golfer”.  He really loved all sports and in later years was happy that many of his grandchildren participated in sports.  However, he was always proud of academic achievements of his children and grandchildren.

Jon graduated from Deposit High School in Deposit, New York and achieved a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio Northern University where he met his wife, Shirley, of 57 years. He began his working career as a math and science teacher and entered into the manufacturing/engineering/sales world for a 35 year career at Federal Mogul Corporation based in Southfield, Michigan which began in Van Wert, Ohio. He retired in 2001 to Pawleys Island, South Carolina where he joined the ranks of Sea Turtle Enthusiasts and enjoyed many of the beautiful golf courses in the area.  In 2017, he and his wife moved to Scotia Village Retirement Community in Scotland County, North Carolina to satisfy his Scottish roots.

Mr. Chandler is survived by his wife; three children:  Lynda Kay Chandler of La Jolla, CA; Julie Chandler Emery, husband Jeff of Pinckney, MI; and Douglas Jon Chandler, wife Monique of Brighton, MI; seven grandchildren:  Abigail and Dorian Chandler Bertics; Nicolas and Megan Emery; Olivia, Luke and Claire Chandler; and a sister Mary Lee Bausch (Fred) of Burke, NY.   He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Christopher Bertics of La Jolla, CA and his sister, Louise Proffitt of Deposit, NY.

A Tribute to the Life of Jon Chandler will be Wednesday, November 27th from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.at Scotia Village in the Highland Room.
