John David Thames

John David Thames, age 73 of Laurinburg passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Laurinburg, officiated by Dr. Wayne Wike. Interment with military honors will precede the service at 10:00 a.m. in Spring Hill Cemetery.

John, a son of the late Robert A. Thames and Margaret Reep Thames was born November 26, 1945 in Lincoln County, North Carolina.  He was a proud Veteran who served in the United States Army.  John was a talented contractor, the owner and operator of Thames Construction who loved his work in Scotland and surrounding counties. He served as a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Laurinburg.  He also enjoyed riding around town with his K9 companion, Gypsy.  John’s greatest joy was sharing time with his family and friends.

 Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Arch Thames.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Jane Purcell Thames of the home; sons, Carsten Thames of Laurinburg, Johnny Thames of Myrtle Beach, SC, Robert Perry “Bobby” Thames (Tracey) of Tega Cay, SC; daughter, Mary Margaret Thames Murray (Blake) of Laurinburg; sisters, Ellen Schoonmaker (Doug) of Concord, Carlette Barnhill (Wayne) of Southport, Cammie Morgan (Terry) of Jefferson and his grandson, Richard Thames. He is also survived by his loving nieces, nephews, many friends and his K9 buddy, Gypsy.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 21, 2019 at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
