Jerri Perkins Smith, age 79 of Laurinburg passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019.
Jerri was born May 29, 1940, daughter of the late Alton Floyd Perkins, Elizabeth Perkins Ingram, and lovingly raised by her late step father, Maybon Ingram. She was the devoted wife of 48 years to the late, Lawrence Edwin Smith, Sr., and loving mother of two children. Jerri began her working career as co-owner of a shoe shop with her mother and later her own business known as, The Shoe Shop & Repair. She later worked with the former Warren Furniture, Cable Company and Co-owned Ingram Answering Service. She believed in serving others before herself and was active in helping others in the community. She formerly served as a member of the Sandhills Emmaus Community, Laurinburg Pilot Club and Stewartsville Baptist Church as Social Committee Chair. Jerri was a founding and active member of New Hope Baptist Church. She enjoyed many hobbies especially, cooking, crafts, playing cards and traveling. She will be remembered by her family for the legacy of love she gave to each of them as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by brother, Billy Shaw Perkins; step brothers, John Ingram and Jim Ingram.
Jerri leaves to cherish her memory her children, son, Lawrence “Larry” E. Smith, Jr., and wife Barbara of Aberdeen; daughter, Sharon Smith Coble and husband Paul of Wilmington; sister-in-law, Teresa Perkins of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Lawrence Edwin Smith III, Lauryn Coble Jaeb (Matthew), Lindsay McKay Smith, Hunter David Smith, Paul Graham Coble III, along with her nieces, nephews and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2019 at New Hope Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Michael Malpass. Burial will follow the service in Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church.
