James Norton Griggs

Jim Griggs, 54, of Rock Hill, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Atrium Health Hospital in Charlotte.

He was born August 29, 1964 in Alexandria, VA, son of the late Clarence Elmer and Dorothy Norton Griggs. Jim graduated from Middleton High School in Charleston, SC where he was in the marching band and volunteered with the Ashbrook High School marching band in Gastonia, NC, while his daughter was in school. He was a member of New River Church and actively volunteered with contemporary Christian concerts and with the Shady Brook Baptist Church Youth Group. Jim loved the beach in Charleston where he desired to return to before his illness. A devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Cindy Griggs; daughter, Ashley Griggs of Rock Hill; brother, Mike Griggs and wife, Diane of Fort Mill; sister, Pat Fail and husband, Chris of Laurinburg, NC; his nieces and nephews,  Drew, Christianna , Courtney and husband Jason, Michael , Matthew , Tyler, Kristine, Zach, Maddy, Brannon and Austin, along with many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Grace United Methodist Church in Charleston, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or a hospice organization of your choice.
