James Darryl Chavis, age 52 of Maxton passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019.
James was born October 3, 1966 in Scotland County, a son of James Ellis Chavis and Fannie Mae Chavis Brewer. He worked many years as a brick mason and attended Maxton Fresh Manna Pentecostal Holiness Church. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, Darryl will forever be missed.
He is preceded in death by his son, Michael Woods and grandson, Jordan Brigman.
Darryl is survived by his wife, Phyllis Chavis of the home; daughters, Stephanie Woods (Clay Hunt) of Maxton, Joy Jacobs (Stephen Locklear) of Laurinburg; daughter in-law, Tiffany Woods of Maxton; parents, James Ellis Chavis of Maxton, Fannie Mae Chavis Brewer (Darrell) of Laurinburg; brothers, Chuck Chavis (Angela), Ellis Chavis (Tammy) all of Laurinburg, Ricky Chavis of Laurel Hill, Bobby Chavis (Tina) of McColl, SC, James Calvin Chavis (Carol) of Maxton; grandchildren, Makayla Woods, Lexus Woods, Madison Heaton, Reagan Strickland, Riley Woods, Brittany Woods and Eric Heaton; nieces, Destiny Chavis, Tiara Chavis, Amber Chavis; nephews, Chuck Chavis II, and Michael Owens; a special cousin, Haley Cook, special friend, Charles McLaurin along with a host of loving family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Maxton Fresh Manna Pentecostal Holiness Church officiated by Rev. Tim Hunt. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday beginning at Noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Maxton Fresh Manna Pentecostal Holiness Church, 910 South Austin Street, Maxton, NC.
