Henry Robert "H.R." Hegwer, Sr.

Henry Robert "H.R." Hegwer, Sr. age 90 of Laurinburg passed away Friday, September 7, 2018.

H.R., son of the late Carl Hegwer and Maggie Quick Hegwer, was born August 8, 1928 in Scotland County. He was the devoted husband to the late Barbara “Bobbie” Gilmore Hegwer who preceded him in death in July 2017. He was a veteran who proudly served in the United States Army in Japan.  He then continued his military career serving and retiring from the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, he served in Germany and in the Vietnam War. He faithfully served as a member of East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church where he enjoyed driving the church bus. One of his favorite past times was fishing. Above all, H.R. loved spending time with his family. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband and father, loving grandfather, brother and friend who will truly be missed.

Along with his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Ervin Hegwer and Carl Hegwer, Jr.

He leaves behind his son, Henry R. Hegwer, Jr. (Mary) of Laurinburg and daughter, Susan H. O’Neill of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Maggie Dudzie, Emily Kerns, Charlie Robert Hegwer, Sam Blancher; step grandchildren, Terri Knight, Leslie Carter, Nicholas Carter; great grandchildren, Aislen Gallops, Ethan Knight, James Davis, Taylor Davis, Dawson Scott, Jace Scott, Evan Scott, Madison Trapp; his nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow with military honors in Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
