Emma Norton High Carter, age 96 of Laurel Hill passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018.
Emma was born March 12, 1922, a daughter to the late Lawrence and Maude Bullard Norton. She was an honest, strong, hardworking woman who retired after 25 years of service as a grocery clerk with Z.V. Pate, Inc. She farmed, loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens and mowing the grass. She served as a longtime member of Peele’s Chapel Wesleyan Church. She will forever be cherished as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Emma was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Mr. Kemp H. High and after 9 years, Rev. Yancy Carter. She is also preceded by a sister, Mary Langley and brothers, Ervin Norton, Marshall Norton, Alton Norton and Teab Norton.
She leaves behind her children, son, Clarence High (Peggy) and Dorinda High Wells (Tommy); grandchildren, Breck High (Daleann), Jarrod High (Amy), Julie Heath (Dan), Toni Wells Goodwin, Terry T. Wells and Kimberly High; great grandchildren, Alexis High, Mason High, Amanda High Pate (Jay), Jordan High, Danielle Heath, Patrick Heath and great-great grand, Sutton Pate; her sisters, Jeanette Sessoms, Laurine Howie, Betty Williams; brother, Willie Norton; sister-in-law, Eddie J. Norton and her many nieces and nephews. Emma is also survived by her step children, Yvonne Holland, Harold Carter and Sonny Carter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. J.W. Williams and Rev. Don Malpass. Burial will follow the service in High Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
