Edna Walters Hammonds, age 71 of Laurinburg passed away to her Heavenly home on Saturday, May 25, 2019.
Edna was a daughter of the late Edward Walters, Jr., and Louise Crowson Walters born August 28, 1947 in Marlboro County, South Carolina. She was the devoted wife to the late Billy Hammonds who preceded her in death in 2001. She loved children and enjoyed her work as a Teacher’s Assistance serving many years with the Scotland County School System. Edna was a precious lady with a heart of gold who loved her family and cherished all time shared with each of them.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by brothers, Edward Walters III and Glenn Thomas Walters.
Edna is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Hammonds (Brian Cooper) of Laurinburg and Melanie Hammonds Sharpe (James) of Wagram; a brother, Chris Chavis of Gibson; sisters, Diane McMillan of Maxton, Barbara Pevey of McColl, SC, Jane Woodside of Laurinburg and Cassie Walters of Laurinburg; four grandchildren, Taylor, Drew, Caroline, Trey and great grandchildren, Lyra, Lyla, Lyana, DJ, a host of loving family and friends including her special friend, Stella Scott.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
