Deffer Jones Cummings

.Deffer Jones Cummings, age 86 of Maxton passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. Shelly Dial and Rev. Jerry Groves.  Burial will follow in the Macedonia Holiness Methodist Church Cemetery.

Born October 7, 1932, Deffer was a daughter of the late Wardell and Armon Oxendine Jones of Robeson County.  She was the devoted wife to the late Rufus Cummins, Jr.  She and her late husband worked together in farming and raising their family.  She attended Light of Truth Church and enjoyed visiting those who were sick.   She also enjoyed cooking, quilting, fishing and working puzzles.  Deffer filled her home with laughter and loved sharing time with her family, especially with the grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Rufus, she is preceded in death by a son, Ricky Cummings and grandson, Ricky Cummings; brothers, Varcey Jones, Winford Jones, James Jones, Vernell Jones and her sisters, Ella McCormick, Pauline Carter.

Surviving are her children, sons, Alford Cummings, Jr., (Joyce), Tony Cummings (Tresia), Gregory “Greg” Cummings (Anita) and daughter, Sarah Strickland (Rev. Randall Strickland).  She was also blessed with 20 grandchildren, thirty four great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and a host of loving family and friends.

Visitation will be from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
