Barry Alonzo Strickland, Jr.

Barry Alonzo Strickland, Jr., age 69 of Laurinburg passed away, Friday, November 1, 2019.

Barry, a son of the late Barry Alonzo Strickland, Sr. and Mattie Frances White Strickland was born October 2, 1950 in Wilson County. He proudly served as a Veteran in the United States Navy and then going on to work many years in the construction business. He was a member of North Laurinburg Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher. Barry was an avid UNC Tar Heel fan, and enjoyed photography and reading. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Phyllis Payne and Frances “Beth” Magee.

Barry is survived his daughter, Angel Lynn Strickland Currie (James) of Concord; brothers, James Barry Strickland (Beth), Charles David Strickland (Charcie); brother-in-law, Bill Payne, all of Laurinburg; sister, Patricia Gore of Laurel Hill; his grandchildren, Aidan Currie and Taylor Currie, along with a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2019 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Pastor Ed Pilarczyk. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park. Visitation will be prior to the service on Monday from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would especially like to thank the staff and residents of Meadowview Terrace of Wadesboro for all of their support and friendships during his time at the home. Also, a special thank you to Louise White, "The Rebel".
