Alex Michael Cummings, age 66 of Laurinburg passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018.
Alex was born December 5, 1951 in Robeson County, a son of the late Katie Mae Chavis and lovingly raised by the late Vernon Chavis. He was a Vietnam Veteran who proudly served in the United States Army and retired National Guard. He retired after many years of service from JP Stevens, Inc., and then worked with Smithfield. Alex enjoyed fishing, camping, riding his Harley Davison motorcycle, watching NASCAR racing and tinkering on classic cars. His greatest joy was sharing time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Edna Dial Cummings; a brother, Leon Cummings and sister, Melrose Campbell.
Alex leaves behind his children, son, James Alex Cummings and Shawn Cummings (Kathy) of Laurinburg; daughter, Pattie Lynn Cummings of Lumberton; step children, Tracy Lowery (Windy), Sutina Monte (David) of Maxton; God sons, Bradley Brigman and John “June” Easterling; brothers, Carl Cummings (Kathy) of Jacksonville, FL, Jimmy Boy Dial of Chesapeake, VA, Lynn Earl Chavis (Doris) Hinesville, GA, Rev. Chester Chavis (Patsy) of Pembroke; sisters, Brenda Dial (Robin) and Nancy Pittman (Bobby Don) both of Laurinburg; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and loving family.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at the East Laurinburg Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Richard Tyson. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the Church. A private interment will be at a later date.
