Albert Chavis

Albert Chavis, age 82 of Laurinburg passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Rev. Glenn Harris, Pastor Mike Porter and Pastor Tracy Sewell. Burial will follow in Stewartsville Cemetery.

Albert was born May 24, 1936 in Robeson County, a loving son of the late Henry Chavis and Maggie Jackson Chavis. He worked in textiles, retiring after 32 years of service from JP Stevens, Incorporated and enjoyed farming and raising farm animals. He loved attending his church, Gibson Friendship Holiness Church. Along with spending time with family, one of his favorite past times was watching old Westerns. Albert was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will truly be missed.

Along with his parents is preceded in death by his step mother, Janie Chavis; brothers, Leeromie “Bud” Chavis, Henry Chavis, Jr.; sisters, Mary Callahan, Annie C. Emanuel and daughter-in-law, Lisa Lett Chavis.

He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Ella Ree Chavis of the home; sons, Al Mitchell Chavis (Pam), John Keith Chavis and daughters, Helen Chavis Porter (Mike), Rebecca Ann Harris (Glenn), all of Laurinburg; brothers, Harlie Chavis, Carlie Chavis, Ernest Chavis, all of Rennert, Ronald Chavis of Red Springs, Thurman Chavis of Shannon; sisters, Shelby Jane Locklear, Eyvonnie Pevia, both of Lumber Bridge; Lillie Mae Oxendine of Pembroke, Lora Ann McMillan of Rennert, Janie Ruth Scott of Maxton, Frances Locklear of Rennert, Sharon Locklear of Pembroke; nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews and many friends.  

A time of visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
