Virginia Hatcher Phillips

Virginia Hatcher Phillips of Laurel Hill, NC departed this life at the age of 89 on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

She was born April 4, 1935 in Scotland County, daughter of the late David Hatcher, Sr., and the late Annie Pearl Leviner Hatcher. Along with being a devoted homemaker, Virginia worked for twenty-four devoted years with Abbott Laboratories until her retirement. She served as a longtime member of the Woodville Pentecostal Holiness Church. Virginia enjoyed going on cruises, reading, crossword puzzles, watching her favorite western television shows, and being and avid fan of the Duke Blue Devil Basketball Team. Her greatest joy came from time shared with her family whom she was lovingly known as Momma, Grandma, Grandma Snuffy, Sister, and Aunt Tunie. Virginia will truly be missed and fondly remembered for her love and devotion to her family and friends.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by husbands, Warren Ed Phillips and James Norton; son, David Edward Phillips; brothers, Lester Hatcher (Edith), Raymond Hatcher (Betty), Bobby Hatcher (Betty), David “Nick” Hatcher (Virginia), Jackie Dean Hatcher; and sister, Geraldine Donovan.

Virginia is survived by her children, son, Duane E. “Sam” Phillips of Laurel Hill; daughters, Belinda P. Scott (Tony) of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Rebecca "Becky" Scott (Timmy) of Laurinburg, Gwendolyn Moore (Randy) of Little River, SC, Estace “Sherry” Phillips of the home, Roxana “Cootie” Burr (Glen) of Laurinburg; brothers, Thomas G. Hatcher, Wayne Hatcher (Lisa); sister, Joane Cribb (Mitchell); grandchildren, Angi Romaine (Adam), Donna Scott, Lawrence “Scottie” Scott, David E. Scott, Amy Scott, Kelly M. Chavis (Justin), Brian Chavis, Kevin W. Phillips (Heather), Keisha Phillips, Maxie Phillips (Jeff), Crystal G. Phillips, Darren Barfield (Rachel), Damien Burr (Samantha), Rachel Lynn Phillips, Chelsea L. Phillips, Destine C. Phillips, and Dakota Phillips; thirty-six great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following at Hillside Memorial Park. 

Visitation will be held prior to services on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
