Monnie Mae (Deese) Norton

Monnie Mae Deese Norton, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, departed this life at the age of 86 on April 2, 2024.

Born in Scotland County, NC on September 23, 1937, daughter of the late Lonnie Deaton and the late Myrtle Deese. Monnie worked for many years with Toastmaster, formerly Ingraham Manufacturing, then continuing her career with Fieldcrest Mills until retiring. She enjoyed attending McColl Pentecostal Holiness Church when her health allowed. Monnie enjoyed watching soap operas on the television and having company visit, especially her special niece, Tammy Anderson whom she loved sharing stories about old times. Monnie was a loving homemaker whose greatest enjoyment came from time shared with family and the memories they shared.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her adored husband of 60 years, Billy Hue Norton; brothers, Marshall “Buster” Deese, James “Peanut” Smith; and sister, Shirley Velazquez.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Faye Barber, and Kaye Steen (Darrell) each of Laurinburg; brother, Larry Deese (Hilda); sisters, Linda Fournier (Neal), and Margaret Stubbs; grandchildren, Brandon Barber (Tiffany), Meagan Steen Eaton (Conor); great-grandchildren, Vera Barber, Jonas Barber; and special sister-in-law, Carolyn Norton; along with a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following at Hillside Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held prior to services on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
