Jean Brown Obituary

Jean Dell Bowyer Brown, our beloved wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted sister, passed to her Heavenly home at the age of 82 on April 7, 2024.

Jean was born June 9, 1941, daughter of the late Roland Charles Bowyer, Sr., and the late Essie Chavis Bowyer of Scotland County.  She dedicated her life to serving God, her family and being a second mother to each of her siblings.  Along with being a homemaker, Jean had a long career in communications as a Drafting Clerk first with the Southern Bell Telephone Company and later retiring from AT&T after a total of 56 years of dedicated service.

Jean began each day prayerfully in her Bible Devotions and faithfully strived to share her witness of the love of Christ to all she encountered.   She served as a member of New Hope Baptist Church and enjoyed attending the First Baptist Church of McColl. Jean was blessed with the talent of music, loved playing the piano and her favorite hobby of quilting.  For many years, Jean also loved sharing her time serving the children with Project In As Much. Her legacy of love will always be cherished by her family and loved ones.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Robin Brown Nuzzo; brothers, Roland “Charles” Bowyer, Jr., Franklin Cecil Bowyer, Tony Wayne Bowyer; sister, Sally Annette Bowyer, and brothers-in-law, Woodrow Wilson Roberts and Linwood Roberts.

Jean leaves behind her devoted husband of 62 years, Arthur "Art" W. Brown, Sr., of their home; son, Arthur “Artie” W. Brown, Jr., and wife, Beverly of Albemarle, and daughter, Kimberly C. Brown of Aberdeen; her adored grandchildren, Arthur W. “Will” Brown III, Megan Brown, Breanna “Paige” Brown, Anthony Nuzzo, William Nuzzo, and great granddaughter, Rylee Grace Ackers; brother, Mike Bowyer (Ann) of Laurel Hill; sisters, Christine Roberts of Laurel Hill, Carolyn Bowyer of Greenwood, MS, Hilda Robert-Freeman (Wayne) of Florence, SC; Lois Bowyer of Cornelius, Pat Roberson (Garry) of Laurinburg, along with her many nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends, Jim and Mary Caulder.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Dr. Thomas Marshall and Rev. Woody Byrd.   Graveside committal will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.  Visitation will be held prior to services on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Richard Boles Funeral Service.

To honor Jean’s loved for children, the family requests memorial donations be given in her memory to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
